Host a NEF file and share it as a link

Put a Nikon raw photo online at its own address — for delivering originals without a transfer service.

Free to use. Your NEF file is live at your-name.99helpers.site in about ten seconds.

What is a .nef file?

NEF (Nikon Electronic Format) is Nikon's raw format, used across its DSLR and Z-series mirrorless cameras. Nikon offers both 12-bit and 14-bit capture, and lossless or lossy compression — which is why two NEF files from the same camera can differ substantially in size.

What people use NEF files for

  • Unprocessed photos from a Nikon body
  • Originals delivered to a retoucher or agency
  • Archives kept before processing
  • Client deliverables where the raws were part of the contract

What opens a NEF file

  • Lightroom, Camera Raw, Capture One and Photoshop
  • Nikon NX Studio, free from Nikon
  • darktable and RawTherapee
  • No browser displays NEF

How to host a NEF file

  1. 1

    Drop your NEF file in

Drag it onto the box at the top of this page, or click to choose it. Files up to 25 MB are supported, and nothing is uploaded until you publish.

  2. 2

    Pick an address

Type a name and we'll tell you straight away whether it's free. That becomes the link: nikon-original.99helpers.site

  3. 3

    Publish and share

Create a free account — that step exists so the file is yours to update, replace or delete — and the link is live within seconds.

The same three steps work for any file — see how file hosting works on 99helpers.com.

What happens when someone opens the link

The file downloads and opens in a raw editor. Nikon's own NX Studio is free and renders NEF exactly as the camera intended, including its picture controls.

Why host a NEF file instead of emailing it?

Sending raw originals is a routine part of professional photography and a routine headache. A permanent link per file is simpler than a transfer service, and still works when the client comes back six months later.

Worth knowing before you publish

  • 14-bit uncompressed NEF files are large — switching the camera to lossless compressed halves the size with no quality cost.
  • Nikon's NX Studio is free and applies the camera's own colour profiles, which third-party editors approximate.
  • Host a JPEG alongside for anyone without a raw editor.

NEF hosting questions

What opens a NEF file?
Lightroom, Capture One, Photoshop, and Nikon's free NX Studio. darktable and RawTherapee also read them at no cost.
Why are my NEF files so large?
Probably 14-bit uncompressed capture. Switching to lossless compressed in the camera menu roughly halves file size while keeping all the data.
Should I convert NEF to DNG?
For archiving or sending to someone with unknown software, yes — DNG is smaller and opens in more places. For your own Lightroom workflow, there's no need.
